In a very short amount of time Steele Cage MMA has quickly established themselves as the most polished local promotion. This designation doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best, Supreme Warrior Championship may put on more shows, and Xtreme Knockout may have a more loyal following, but if you’re looking for a promotion that is going to treat a fight card like an event, Steele Cage MMA stands above the rest. While the have yet to replicate the energy of their first promotion, in terms of the caliber of fights themselves, each of their following two promotions have featured more and more high-caliber fighters.
Last Friday night, Steele Cage MMA held their third North Texas promotion at their familiar haunt at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. Without a doubt, Steele Cage 3 was their biggest and most ambitious promotion to date. Of course, that was exactly the idea when they flew out UFC legend Chuck Liddell to coo the sponsors and bring in the fans. It seemed to work wonders as the turnout for Steele Cage MMA was very respectable, as was the media interest. Stands to reason that Steele Cage MMA will be back and it will be interesting to see how they top this card.
NTF Awards (Very Unofficial)
Fight of the Night – Douglas Frey vs. Joseph Sandoval
Fights like Frey vs. Sandoval always conjure up images of Russell Crowe in Gladiator screaming, “Are you not entertained!” I mean, this fight was a war, a brutal back-and-forth scrum that left people horse from screaming. It was a shame there had to be a loser, but give credit to Sandoval who displayed a granite chin, and heart of a champion in victory.
Submission of the Night – Joey Gorczynski
Gorczynski may have stamped his ticket to higher-profile bouts with his domination over local prized prospect Joe Christopher. Gorczynski’s wrestling will be a hellacious outing for any fighter. I would like to see more of the Oklahoma badass.
KO of the Night – Joseph Sandoval
If you were in attendance Friday night, you know this award is a given. Anytime you dent the chin of a fighter like Douglas Frey, you get nothing but props.
