For better or worse, Frisco, Texas based Supreme Warrior Championship (SWC) has continued to plug along and give MMA fans here in North Texas regularly scheduled live cage action.  Unfortunately, an SWC promotion is either hit or miss.  When they are on, few promotions can match the action and energy of an SWC card, but on the flip side, SWC has had the misfortune of seeing a number of their shows canceled due to various issues.

While there are MMA junkies here in the NTX who have been permanently put off by the uncertainty of an SWC show, the fact of the matter is that you have to give the fledgling promotion props for toughening out some pretty lean cards to give us fight fans our fix.

Yesterday, SWC announced the proposed fight card for their April 10 promotion taking place at their familiar haunt, the Frisco Convention Center.  So far this is the card:

Main Event

Marcus Hicks vs. Edwynn Jones

Undercard

Brandon Smith vs. Clay Hantz

Will Florentino vs. Frank Lester

Johnny Bedford vs. Vincent Libardi

Chaz Skelly vs. Josh Clopton

Davis Sylvester vs. Corey Ortiz

Mike Baskis vs Nick Gonzalez

Jason Sampson vs. Brian Benoit

Chris Golden vs. TBD

Devon Nichols vs. Jerry Hinojosa

Jill Schneider vs. Brighton Husson

First of all, I have to say that the card looks pretty damn impressive.  However, there has been some rumbling on the message boards about the credibility of the proposed main event.  Most seem to question why SWC would give former WEC title challanger Marcus Hicks an perceived "easy" fight with the unheralded Edwynn "Ox" Jones.

SWC head-honcho Davis Sylvester took the time to address these concerns on txmma.com, posting the following:

Guys I hear the concern.  Edwynn Jones is actual 5-11 via http://www.mma.tv; The fight was put together because the two talked about fighting when Marcus cornered me at a King of Kombat event.  Ox was all for fighting Marcus!  He actually asked me to put the fight together, so here it is.

The other point is Marcus is moving up to 170 from 155 to fight Ox.  And truth being told it's a fight anything can happen, plus Ox told Marcus that "he won't stand with him" so it sounds like it going to be a stand up war.

It was the same thing when we put Marcus against Ira.  Ira told me he has been wanting to fight the Wrecking Ball for a long time.  Both Ira and Ox have fought everyone, so they are game opponents.

Well then.  Consider me geeked for this card, and I'm even cool with the main event when you look in the context of what the SWC is.  This is not the UFC, there are no UFC-level purses for the fighters, but on that note, fans do not have to pay UFC-level prices for tickets.  All things considered, SWC 10 will give fans the chance to witness a supremely talented, and name, fighter in Hicks against a very game Edwynn Jones.  All this and you don't have to break the bank to purchase a ticket.

Who can't appreciate that?
