Oak Cliff’s Charles “The Future” Hatley (14-0, 11 KOs) faced inarguably his sternest test as a professional fighter when he entered the squared circle against the heralded Emanuel Augustus (38-33-6, 20 KOs) last night. The fight headlined the Black Gloves Promotions card from the QuickTrip Park in Grand Prairie, TX. For Hatley, the fight represented a huge step up in competition, but as his performance Saturday night proved, Hatley is indeed ready for stardom.
Hatley was down in the first round and Augustus was down twice in round two. Hatley was tested hard by an older, physically smaller opponent who had no punching power. This was the fight of the night and easily could have been a draw.
Scores were 76-73, 78-75, and 75-74 in favor of Hatley.
Undercard Results
Antonio Gamez (5-3-1, 1 KO) scored a six-round majority decision against the always-game Calvin Pitts (5-13). Scores were 58-56, 58-56, 57-57.
Greg “The Technician” Hatley Jr. (2-1, 1 KO) blasted out Jermaine Rankin (2-1, 1 KO) in one round. Official time of the stoppage was 1:02 in the opening round. The stoppage was premature.
Former amateur stand-out Ray Ximenez (1-0) made his professional debut a successful one with a four round shutout of Christoval Larrazolo (1-3). Larrazolo was dropped in rounds one and two. Ximenez looked relaxed in his pro debut. Scores were 40-33, 40-34, and 40-34.
Angel Sigala (4-2, 1 KO) impressively stopped Joey Dunmoodie (5-2-2, 2 KOs) in the opening round. Dunmoodie was down hard and barely made it up. Sigala followed up and got the TKO after numerous unanswered punches. The official time of the stoppage was 1:25 in round one.
Dallas’ Fernando Rodriguez (5-1, 3 KOs) used his patented debilitating body attack grind down DeShaun Williams (1-3, 1 KO) in route to a four-round unanimous decision. Scores were 40-36, 39-37, and 39-37.
Fort Worth’s Steve Gutierrez (4-1-1 2 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over Ruben Guadalupe (1-3) in the night’s opening bout. Time was 2:20 in round four.
