When I was 20 years old I found myself in the dusty city of Tlaltenango, Zacatecas, Mexico during the September 16 Mexico Independence Day. Due to my over consumption of beer and tequila, the details of the fiesta in the plaza are sketchy at best. Though, at one point I do believe I saw a man catch himself on fire with fireworks, and I may, or may not, have hit on every chica in sight. Needless to say, it was a hella fun time, well, at least until I had to suffer the hangover to end all hangovers.
But my tales of debauchery aside, this September 16 come celebrate the independence of our neighbor to the south by taking in a night of fistic awesomeness. This Friday, Paulie Ayala Productions, in association with Riveras Mexican Resturante, and the Hometown Boys will host “Battle at Pequeno” at Pequeno Mexico in Fort Worth. The six-bout boxing card will feature a number of young up-and-coming prospects along with being part of the always-fun “Fiestas Patricias” taking place at Pequeno Mexico.
Headlining the fight card will be undefeated Austin prospect Casey “The Wizard” Ramos. 2008 US Olympian Luis “The Latin Legend” Yanez is also slated to appear on the card. Other local fighters include Jorge Suarez and Rafael Casias.
