"Fight for Cash" Combines Grappling and Charity for a Great Cause

Cash_WilliamsThe reason I made the decision to focus my attention on the local fight scene here in North Texas was due in large part to the communal aspect of the people in this uniquely awesome subculture.  For all the bickering and infighting there are countless stories of our beloved fight scene coming together to help one another in times of need.  It’s truly a testament to the common thread that binds us all and proof positive that the majority of negative stereotypes bestowed upon fighters, gyms, and fight fans is unfounded and flat out incorrect.  Well, the time has once again come for us in the combative sports scene in North Texas to band together for a greater good.

Meet 2 year old Cash Michael Williams.  This absolutely adorable child is a testament to faith and courage.  Born with Septo-optic dysplasia, a congenital underdevelopment of the optic nerve, poor Cash was born blind in both eyes.  Undaunted, Cash’s parents researched treatment methods and discovered some wonderful medical advances made using stem cell transplants in China.  Through the love and support of their friends and family, Cash and his parents Morgan and Jesse made the arduous trek out to China to see if something could be done for Cash.  This was last June and miraculously soon after treatment Cash was able to identify light sources for the first time.  Additionally, young Cash can now identify colors, particularly red.  Invigorated by the miracle taking place before their very eyes, Cash’s parents immediately set their sights on a return trip to China to continue the treatment.

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover this experimental procedure and despite the significant gains being made as a result Morgan and Jesse must come out of pocket for all expenses and treatments.  Understandably, this is a huge financial burden for the young family and as such it is time for us as a community to come to the aid of a very deserving young child.

On June 23 Metroflex Gym, along with Fitness Fight Factory and UFFL MMA will host a 16-man grappling tournament with the proceeds going to benefit Cash and his family’s return trip to China.  The grappling tournament, entitled “Fight for Cash” will be held at MetroFlex Gym and feature 16 of North Texas most prominent professional MMA fighters and submission artists.  It’s a one-of-a-kind charity event that will not only entertain grappling aficionados and fight fans, but more importantly, will help benefit a young child.  It’s a win-win in any book.

“Fight for Cash” will take place Saturday, June 23 at MetroFlex Gym (5501 Thelin Street, Suite 125, Fort Worth, TX 76115) from 12 PM – 5 PM.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.  Go to http://hopeforcash.blogspot.com for more information or to make a donation via PayPal.
